About Jobpocalypse
Jobpocalypse is an independent research project tracking how current-generation AI is reshaping the US labor market. It pairs the BLS Occupational Outlook Handbook with Claude-scored per-task automation and the Karpathy/BLS Digital AI Exposure scale to build a single AI Overlap Index for every one of 342 occupations.
What this is
A transparent, reproducible, source-attributed view on task-level AI exposure. Every number on an occupation page is traceable to a BLS field, a cited external prior, or a task-level LLM evaluation with its rationale printed on the same page.
What it is for
- Researchers who want a clean dataset with documented weights and prompts
- Journalists and analysts who want to quote a specific score with full provenance
- Workers and students comparing how their role stacks up - with the explicit caveat that individual circumstances dominate
- Policy and workforce development teams building their own priors on top
What it is not
This is not a prediction market, not a jobs board, not career advice, and not a claim about when specific roles will shrink. The AOI is directional: it tells you which occupations have more of their task mix already within AI's reach, not how markets or employers will respond.
The road ahead
Coming in subsequent releases: premium per-occupation task heatmaps, monthly BLS-Indeed demand refreshes, a country comparison layer, and a Pro tier with CSV exports and an API.
